The Big Chill

At last, we can all stop sweating as the temperature cools down. Wandering around in the cool gentle breeze, I love to write down my feelings. I am not an artist, but here are some of the best this month.
From November 3-18, the internationally acclaimed, California-based Cantonese painter Cheng Hoi will hold his solo exhibition"Boastful Elation" in Art 64 to show off his take on the Eastern-Western divide. At Fei Gallery, photographer Xu Peiwu will display the great changes that have taken place in Guangzhou from his own eyes from the 24th until December 19. The long-lost Orange Gallery also presents the faces of Guangdong under the title "Definition of Guangdong," with paintings by more than 10 established and emerging artists who are living or working in Guangdong all month.
Guangdong Museum of Art is devoted to local art this month. With its 10th anniversary coming, it is sharing storied photographs and paintings with the public. Two exhibits on this theme will be made. Mexican photographers Francisco Mata and Pedro Meyer will also collaborate with the Guangdong Meseum of Art to plan a rare chance to provide a window into Mexican lifestyle, religion, historical heritage and other aspects from November 9 to December 9. The "Floating Avant-garde" features the links in Modernist Art between Guangzhou, Shanghai and Tokyo in the first 40 years of the 20th century from the 18th to January 6.
At Xinghai Concert Hall, Korean pianist Kun Woo Paik  will start his world tour in Guangzhou. He will be performing Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas for seven continuous days to commemorate the 180th anniversary of Beethoven's death. And the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra 2007-2008 Music Season continues with the likes of "All for Love," conducted by the German music genius Michael Sanderling on November 24, and a symphony concert conducted by the Music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta Yi Wing-sie on the 10th.
A spot of comedy hits Guangzhou also as Chinese comedian Guo Donglin and Canadian actor Mark Rowswell (or "Dashan") act a stage comedy called "The Dinner Game" adapted from French playwright Francis Veber¡¯s 1998 work on the 13-14. "Crazy Stone" adapted from the popular same-named Chinese movie and "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" performed by the Japan Pilot Opera Troupe are also worth a shout. If you want to get involved all month, the Modern Dance Company Theater are encouraging any dance fans to get moving with them every week this November.
