BOCOG President Calls for Continuous Hard Work for Paralympics
President of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG) Liu Qi yesterday urged the host city to continue working hard to prepare for the Paralympics. At a conference to review preparations for the Paralympic Games, Liu said the success of the Beijing Olympics would lend strength to everyone involved. Liu stressed all departments to prepare well for the Paralympic torch relay and the Sept. 6 opening ceremony of the Paralympics, which runs until Sept. 17.
More than 4,200 Athletes to Compete at Beijing Paralympics
A press conference about Beijing Paralympic Games torch relay was held in Beijing yesterday(Aug 26th). According to an official of BOCOG, more than 4,200 athletes from 148 countries and regions will attend the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. In addition, more than 2,500 referees and more than 4,000 journalists and media technicians will gather in Beijing for the event. There will also be 30,000 volunteers working for the games. Several cultural activities and press conferences will be held during the games. The International Paralympics Committee highly praised the preparation work of the games as well as the creation of the games' opening and closing ceremony. One dresse rehearsal will be held before the opening of the games.
