Welcome to our special report on Beijing Olympics, this is Zhengyun.
Every day, there are volunteers in Blue T-shirts working around Olympic venues, on key roads and in busy areas, until the early hours. They are involved in every single part of the Olympics' organization, guaranteeing a smooth operation of the Games.
Last night at 10, outside the Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium, I met a group of special volunteers. Their real job is teaching but now they are drivers for officials attending the Games.
As a sharp contrast from the exciting atmosphere inside the gymnasium, there they waited for their guests in a quiet corner for hours. Actually, their volunteer cards would allow them to enter the venue. However, they chose to stay at their post while audiences are enjoying the games. Mr. Ma said:
"We are volunteers. We represent Beijing's image. If we use the convenience of a volunteer and watch the games, that will damage the title of volunteer."
As volunteers, they didn't benefit from anything. Instead, they sacrifice time and couldn't even watch competitions on TV. They can't go home until safely driving the last guest back to hotel. However, I did not hear any complaint, except their smiles and look of pride on their face. Mr. Guo said:
"Olympics has been a dream of China over the past 100 years. It's my honor to be part of it."
They are not the only one making contribution to Beijing Olympics. Mr. Ma said his families are backing him as volunteers.
"Normally when I get home, it's 1 or 2 AM. My family still waits for me and cooks for me. Every family is the same. For those who have kids, they have met more difficulties."
Over half a million volunteers from all walks of life are serving for Beijing Olympics. For me, they have the best smile and the most beautiful face. Their blue T-shirt has become my favorite color in the city, which always shows me direction and gives me strengthen.
