Welcome to the latest report on Beijing Olympics. This is Zhengyun.
Many of you may not forget this moment. After a comfortable lead, American shooter Matthew Emmons made a 4.4 point shoot in the men's 50-meter rifle final, this mistake cost him dearly, with him losing out on an all but decided Gold podium. Unfortunately the same disaster happened again.
Four years ago in Athens, the shooter, with an obvious advantage, was just one shot away from gold, had his last bullet plunged into another shooter's target. Fortunately, that mistake won him a wife - also a gold medalist - Katerina who patiently comforted him.
Beyond everyone's expectation, Emmons was able to show light into his miserable luck. After a short while, he showed up in front of the media, even with smile. So what happened in the last shot?
"What happened is that it happens sometime that it was coming down under the target. My finger just hit the trigger harder than I want it to, and the gun just went off. It happens sometimes."
What is he thinking at that moment?
"Of course I mean when you shooting in the final and you are shooting well, you always gonna be a little nervous, but I did really good work with my mind. I was ready for it. But I am really sure that I knocked the trigger and it would be a really good shot. I felt really comfortable about it. It was just surprised when it went off so soon."
Emmons told everyone, his wife is his medalist.
"I have said this for a couple times before, what happened that happens. If for some reason that let us to start talking and eventually get together, I would do it a million more times. I wouldn't change. No gold medal matters that or amounts of that. That's true."
Even though Emmons have missed the gold twice, his has won many people's hearts, including mine. He will keep trying and is hoping to make the London 2012 Olympics. Good luck to him.
