Outlook of China foreign trade positive
Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng said at a press conference in Beijing Tuesday (July 22) that, the "outlook of China's foreign trade in the second half of 2008 would be positive, despite a sharp decline in first half trade surplus". He also announced at the conference the China Import and Export Fair, or the "Canton fair," would run between October 15 and November 6 in Guangzhou. The fair was considered a "barometer" of the country's foreign trade.

Three Eastern Han Dynasty Tombs Discovered in GZ
Three ancient tombs of Eastern Han Dynasty were recently unearthed at a construction site in Guangzhou's Haizhu District. Items buried with the dead were excavated. Two brick-chambered tombs and one earth- pit tomb were also discovered. Archaeological experts confirmed that tomb raiders have broken into these tombs, but denied they are tombs of imperial families.

Swimming Test the Treatment of Pearl River Last Saturday afternoon (July 19) saw 3000 citizens swim across the Pearl River, led by Guangzhou leaders headed by the Mayor Zhang Guangning. It was the 3rd time that this event has been held to demonstrate the government's determination to clean up the river and show its achievement so far. Our journalist Yu Sulin has more:
In the team, Korean consul-general Jeon Jeaman is the first consul-general in Guangzhou who has joined in the activity. He said this event is meaningful:
"Citizens' involvement is most important for environmental protection. Only when everyone is participating, the target could be achieved."
Many swimmers have participated in the event for a few times, they gave this comment:
"The water is getting better and better. I¡¯m more and more confident."
Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning stressed that more efforts should be made for the clean-up campaign.
"We will work harder. After treatment, we hope citizens can swim in the river any time they like without any special control measures."
