This week on "Asian Games Live!", Ananth Krishnan, the China correspondent for the Hindu, an influential newspaper in India, will share his perspective about the upcoming Guangzhou Asian Games. Later, in "Today's Focus", we'll be looking into how Guangzhou, the host city of the 2010 Asian Games, has taken on a new look and undergone in-depth change to welcome athletes and visitors to the Games.
But first, let's have a look at what's been happening around Guangdong this week.
Huang Huahua Leads Government Delegation on a Visit to Egypt, Israel and India Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua left Guangzhou with a government delegation on a visit to Egypt, Israel and India yesterday (19th). During their trip, the delegation will visit the 2010 China (Guangdong) Egypt Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference in Cairo, as well as another trade meetings and expos in New Dehli and Mumbai.
Competition Schedules For Asian Games Events to be confirmed by October Tian Xinde, the Deputy Secretary General of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee announced that the schedules of the 476 Asian Games events should be finalized on October 30th. He also explained that all the venues will be open to the athletes for training purposes starting on November 5th.
The Canton Fair Features the Asian Games Element The second phase of the 108th session of the Canton Fair, China's trade barometer, opened today (Oct 20th) at the Pazhou Complex, this time presenting daily consumer goods, gifts and home decorations. The second phase will last until Oct 27th. Just days ahead of the Asian Games, a shop selling licensed products has been set-up. More from our reporter Yang Zhen: An Asian Games licensed products shop has been open at the fair and since the first day of the fair the shop has generated an average of 30,000 yuan per day. Yao Yuan, the shop's manager told us, "Record" Our customers are mainly Chinese exhibitors buying products as souvenirs. Some overseas buyers visiting the fair will also buy products as gifts for their friends and children.
GZ's Import and Export Volume with Asian Countries Rise According to the Guangzhou Foreign Trade and Economic bureau, between January and August this year, the city's trade volume with Asian nations hit 38 billion USD, up by 50% year-on-year and accounting for nearly 60% of the city's imports and exports. 50% of Guangzhou's exports were made to Asia.
Foreigner Families Living in GZ to Receive Special Asian Games Gift As one of the ten measures to celebrate the Asian Games, special Asian Games gift packages are now being given to foreign families living in Guangzhou and they include a thank-you letter signed by the city's party secretary and mayor and commemorative stamps and postcards.
