Guangdong Week Kicks Off The "Guangdong Week" at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai opened Wednesday (28th), with over 80 performances being staged to present Guangdong culture. Our journalist Luosu and Luo Liting have the details: The theme of this Guangdong Week is "Enthusiastic Games, Green Guangdong", and a series of activities related to the Guangzhou Asian Games are being held to increase the sporting event's profile. The director of the Guangdong Culture Department Fang Jianhong said: "during the event, Asian Games Songs including Guangzhou, the beautiful flower city, and Getting Together in Guangzhou, will be performed." Primary school students from Guangzhou and Shanghai exchanged mascots and 10,000 tickets to the Guangzhou Asian Games and Para Games were handed out to Shanghai students.

400 Tickets Orders received Tickets for the Opening and Closing Creameries of the Guangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games went on sale to the public worldwide at 10am on Monday (July 26). The ticket center reminds the public they can order tickets from July 26 to August 15, and that it's better not to wait until the last day.
6th World Chinese Forum Opens in GZ The 6th World Chinese Forum, which gathers ethnic Chinese from both China and abroad to discuss some of the hottest topics in modern society, opened Monday (26th) in Guangzhou. Our journalists Chen Gang and Zhang Keng have more: This year's theme is "Innovative China, Harmonious Development". Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua pointed out the importance for Guangdong to attract more Chinese talents from overseas to help develop the province's economy: "Guangdong, with the most earnest sincerity, will provide its best service, best living and working environment to attract overseas Chinese talents to settle down and work here."
Guangzhou to use Water from Xijiang River Guangzhou will soon be able to use water from the Xijiang River, one of the best water sources in China. To transfer the water to the PRD, the government has invested about 9 billion Yuan (1.3 billion USD) to build a 71.6 kilometer-long pipeline which can transfer 3.5 million cubic meters of water every day.
GD Ranks 2nd Nationwide in Lowest Energy Consumption per GDP A report recently issued by the Guangdong Development and Reform Commission shows that in 2009, Guangdong's energy consumption per GDP was down 4% from 2008, ranking 2nd in the whole of the PRC. Within the province, it was the city of Shanwei which had the lowest energy consumption per GDP, at 0.528 tons of goal per 10,000 Yuan.
Migrant workers get better insurance All migrant workers in Guangdong will be covered by the provincial medical insurance scheme by the end of this year, according to the Guangdong Human Resources & Social Securities Department. What's more, from now on, Guangdong residents treated in a public hospital will see their medical expenses reimbursed at up to 65%.
GD to Realize 1 Trillion Yuan Added Value through IAR by 2015 A meeting was held Monday (26th) to draft out the plan for the future of Guangdong's IAR (Industry-Academia-Research). The plan says that by year 2015, Guangdong's IAR work will have found solutions for at least 1000 technological bottlenecks that occur in the production process and realized an added value of 1 trillion Yuan.
