Guanghou Asian Games Delegation in Paris At the invitation of UNESCO, a delegation led by Vice-Mayor, Xu Ruisheng was in Paris last weekend to promote the Guangzhou Asian Games. The Asian Games Organizing Committee, UNESCO and the China Folk Photography Association will hold a photography competition around the theme of folk customs. This is the first time for UNESCO to cooperate with an international sporting event.

2009 Asian Female's Handball Challenge to be Held as Test Event for GZ Asian Games The "2009 Asian Woman's Handball Challenge" was held in the first week of August in Guangzhou. The organizers plan to use this event as a test match for the preparation for next year's Asian Games. According to Tian Xinde, Deputy Secretary General of the Games' Organizing Committee, this competition will test the Sports Department's operational capacities.

Evaluations underway for mobile media platform of the 16th Asian Games A meeting to discuss mobile media platforms operating during the Games was set-up by the organizing committee's broadcasting & media department. A group of media experts from Xinhua News Agency and some local media were invited to attend the meeting and review a proposal provided by China Mobile. These media experts were involved in reporting on previous Olympic Games and will be covering next year's Asian Games.

Volunteers to Examine 321 Canals in Guangzhou Another Asian Games campaign to promote environmental protection started recently. Around 400 volunteers joined the campaign to walk along and examine 10 canals in the city to examine all 231 streams in downtown Guangzhou within a year.
GZ Asian Game's Dragon Boat Venue Under-Construction In Zengcheng, north of Guangzhou the Asian Games' organizing committee is now building the wetland park which will host the dragon boat races. The park will be the largest wetland park near Guangzhou, and after the games, it will remain open for people to go swimming, fishing and cycling.
