Celebrities to Shine at Guangzhou Asian Games Chinese celebrities from the arts, science and sports sectors will participate in the promotion of the upcoming Guangzhou Asian Games. The renowned academician Doctor Zhong Nanshan, table tennis Olympic champion Deng Yaping, as well as the Kong Fu star Jackie Chan, Hong Kong star Andy Lau and many other celebrities will join in the promotion campaign, becoming image ambassadors, and some even performing for the games.

Trial Operation for GZ Asian Games Town Next October The major part of the Guangzhou Asian Games Town was completed last month, leaving workers to now connect the electricity and finish decorating. Work should finished by June next year, but trial operations to check everything is working properly will officially commence on November 25th. The town covers over 2.7 square kilometers and consists of several parts, including residential areas for athletes, media, and officials and a news center. The town features nine new innovations, such as the vacuum waste collection system. It is the largest ever construction project in the Asian Games' history.

GZ Invests Big in Urban Image As the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games is approaching; improving Guangzhou's overall appearance is one aspect the government has decided to focus on. Guangzhou has allocated 58 billion Yuan into the renovation and construction of transport facilities, environmental protection and the improvement of urban landscapes. Currently Guangzhou has finished cleaning up 69 rivers and over the next 2 years, the city's air quality is also expected to improve.
GZ metro line 2 and 8 link Baiyun Airport for the Games In Guangzhou, the extension of line 2 of the city's metro and the new line 8 have successfully been connected and the whole line is expected to open to the public before next year's Games. 81% of Asian Games venues will be connected to the metro network by November 2010.
Guangzhou to Initiate Campaign to Recycle Oil-Gas This September, Guangzhou will initiate a campaign to recycle motor oil from used oil depots, oil tankers, and gas stations, so as tackle air pollution and host a green Asian Games. What's more, newly-built gas stations must meet motor oil recycling standards before they are allowed to open.
