Welcome to Guangdong Today, this is Edward Welsh. This week My Guangdong welcomes two friends of our host Matt------Judith and Stuart Mason, who were on their third and second visit to Guangzhou respectively and they will talk about changes they have seen, the things they have done, the amazing bargains they have found, and the impact the holidays have had on their teenage daughter. "It's unlike anywhere I've ever been. I've traveled quite a bit in Europe, been to America, but China is different...Guangzhou is brilliant, a completely new experience." "I love the shopping, I don't like shopping at home but here I adore it. There's so much that I don't get at home."
Before we hear the couple's experience in Guangzhou, let's first take a look at the "News of the Week" from around Guangdong.
Welcome to News of the week. First the headlines:
GD fanatics Charmed by Solar Eclipse The longest solar eclipse of the 21st century pitched a swath of Asia into near-darkness on Wednesday (July 22), as millions watched the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. Although citizens in Guangdong missed out on the total eclipse, they were able to enjoy the beauty of partial eclipse at 9:24 AM. A group of astronomy fanatics from Guangdong traveled all the way to Jinzhou in Hubei province to witness the total eclipse, the longest one until 2132. One viewer who has just witnessed this wonderful eclipse told us: "I am very happy, very excited. The whole team, over 100 people, hailed it when we saw it. Spectacular! It's so rare. It's like a sunset but the color of the sky is darker than during a sunset. Another enthusiast recalled the moment when the darkness suddenly fell. "everything suddenly turned dark. You could only see the street lamps, and things are not clear. Everyone was amazed, and trying to take photos of the event. I enjoyed the whole process." Though in Guangdong, there was only partial solar eclipse, their enthusiasm still ran high. Many of Guangzhou citizens were spotted outdoors and used special glasses and films to view the rare scene, which only takes place once every 500 years. More from our reporter Luo Su. When the partial solar eclipse occurred, a lady surname wang said, "It is amazingly beautiful." A citizen surnamed Zhang, "If I missed the scene, I will only have the chance in my next life."
