100 New Cars Displayed at Guangzhou Auto Show

Car lovers are able to have a closer look at new cars that have just hit the market at the 6th China (Guangzhou) Automobile Exhibition that opened today (November 19). Held at the Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, the show displays over 100 new cars, 30 of which are making their debuts. The show will last until November 25th.

Fuel tax 'to be levied as soon as timing is right'

Han Wenke, director-general of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, told media yesterday (November 18) that the government is likely to levy fuel taxes soon, whilst reducing road tolls and maintenance fees. The timing of the introduction of such a tax has long been a hot topic. Many believe the present low crude oil price is a perfect opportunity for the government to levy the tax as a key step towards letting the market eventually set prices, as consumers will be more amenable when oil prices are low.

 

GZ Aims to Increase Forest Coverage to 55%

The 5th Chinese urban forest seminar, a conference to discuss forests and urban eco-environmental constructions, closed yesterday (November 18) in Guangzhou. Delegates attending the seminar approved a declaration made by the city, advocating society to support the construction of urban forests and preserving the eco-environment. The Guangzhou government pledged to increase the city's forestation coverage to 55% in 3 years.
