New Vice Mayor Address Media

The Guangdong government has finalized a list of 100 young officials who will soon take on high level responsibilities. Some will start as heads of department, whilst 5 of them have even been chosen to become vice mayors of cities in the Pearl River Delta. The 5 vice mayors, including 2 selected candidates from outside provinces, met the media today (November 12) before they officially take office. 

Overseas Chinese Still Optimistic with Mainland Market

The first East Guangdong Overseas Chinese Expo, aiming to attract investments from overseas Chinese, ended today the two-day event (November 12) in Shantou, eastern Guagndong. Our journalist Zhang Keng has more:

The Expo was held along with the Shantou Economic and Trade Conference. Up to 120 projects, with a total investment volume of 77.9 billion yuan were signed during the event, of which 65 projects will be funded by overseas Chinese or foreign investors, who said that they are still optimistic when it comes to the mainland market, in spite of the global financial turmoil.

One investor said:

"We choose to invest in China because it's easier for our development."

Another added:

'The opening of direct flights, cargo and mail between the Mainland and Taiwan will benefit Shantou a lot."

Guangzhou to launch 2145 Affordable houses

Guangzhou is to put on the market 2145 affordable houses at the end of this month, which will be the first batch of affordable houses in the city. These houses will be located in Jinshazhou, Tongde and Datang. So far, over 2400 households are eligible for buying these houses. 

"Deutschland and China" Promotes German Culture in GZ

Deutschland and China, a project aimed at promoting German culture among Chinese people, is being held at the west gate of Guangzhou's Tianhe Sports Center. German music bands have also been performing a series of concerts, attracting many local and foreign citizens.
