Large Charity Show to be Held to Mark 100-Day Countdown to Asian Para Games A large-scale charity show will be held tonight (September 3) in Guangzhou's Tianhe Sports Stadium to mark the 100th day countdown to the Guangzhou Asian Para Games. A charity fund raising will be organized to collect funds, part of which will be used to sponsor the accommodation and transport costs for 5 athletes from each of the 41 participating countries and regions to the Games. This morning, the Guangdong CPC Committee also staged a performance show to mark the occasion.
Typhoon Lion Rock listed as a tropical storm The typhoon Lion Rock is losing momentum and is now listed as a tropical storm. After landing in Chaozhou yesterday (2nd September), the storm is sweeping across northeastern Guangdong bringing rainstorms to most of the province and this shall last for at least 2 days. Tomorrow Guangzhou will continue to experience heavy rainstorms with temperatures ranging between 24 to 29 degrees but Sunday we can expect to see better weather with only occasional rain.
Private cars might ban from roads 1 day/week With the Guangzhou Asian Games just 2 months away, members of the Guangzhou CPPCC have come up with new ideas to control the volume of vehicles that will run on the roads during the Games. Apart from the odd-even number vehicle limitation regulation, a new rule might ban private cars from the roads one day per week. Some CPPCC members argue that this move could reduce traffic volume by 1/5 on a daily basis.
3000 Athletes Will Participate in the 2010 Asian Para Games The Guangzhou Asian Para Games will take place from Dec. 12th to 19th. It is estimated that 3000 athletes will participate in 19 disciplines. To encourage local citizens to go and watch the games, access to all Asian Para Games events will be free.
