Chanthu Hits GD The Guangdong Flood Control and Disaster Prevention Office announced that as of 8 p.m. last night, typhoon Chanthu which landed in the city of Wuchuan yesterday afternoon, had caused two casualties, and affected a population of over 1.35 million. The city of Zhanjiang took the hardest blow causing a loss of 1.2 billion yuan. Typhoon Chanthu is the first typhoon to really hit Guangdong this year. Though it has moved into Guangxi province, for the next few days Guangdong will seen heavy rainstorms.
Guangzhou Prepares for 100-Day Countdown Celebrations The Guangzhou Asian Games' torch relay will commence its journey on October 9th in Beijing with a lighting ceremony commences. GAGOC said the torch relay will enter Guangdong on October 11th and shall first stop in the city of Zhongshan. From November 3rd till 11th, the torch relay will take place within Guangzhou. What's more, GAGOC also said there will be a large celebration on August 4th, to mark the 100-day countdown to the games. The Asian Games theme songs will be performed along with many other acts.
Addition Fuel Surcharge Soon Cancelled The additional 0.5 Yuan fuel surcharge fee in taxis that has only recently become effective is likely to be canceled in the near future, probably next. The deputy director of the Guangzhou Price Control Bureau said yesterday morning (22nd) that LPG's retail price could drop to below 3.64 Yuan per liter, and when this happens, the additional 0.5 Yuan fuel surcharge will be canceled. Currently the LPG retail price is 4.05 Yuan per liter.
