GD Aims to Be More High-tech Driven
Guangdong plans to transform itself into one of the nation's high-tech industry bases within the next five years. Mr. Zhu Xiaodan, Guangdong Vice Governor, announced yesterday (July 14th) that Beijing has approved Guangdong's application to build 10 national-level high-tech industry bases, accounting for one eighth of the nation's total bases. These are expected to yield a production value reaching 100 billion yuan.

In football, a new season for China's A League will start this weekend after a nearly two months' break. The Guangzhou-based Evergrande will challenge Hubei Team in Wuhan this Saturday (July 17th). It is yet unknown whether the team's new recruit, the Brazilian forward Muriqui, will be able to play this weekend as the transfer procedure is still underway.

10,000 Chinese and Overseas Media Will Come to GZ and Cover Asian Games
And in the latest updates concerning the preparations underway for the media during the Guangzhou Asian Games, a press conference was held yesterday (July 14th) by GAGCO. 10,000 Chinese and overseas journalists are expected to arrive in Guangzhou and cover the event, with 70% of them to live in the Asian Games town. The media identification and accreditation cards will be sent out in August. What's more, the international broadcasting center will be open on October 28th and the main news center on November 1st.
