Home buyers halt purchase plan
Guangzhou's real estate market has been affected by the new mortgage policies rolled out by the central government to curb inflating property prices. The new measures have increased the minimum down-payments for those buying a second home or more, in order to curb speculation in the real estate market. Over the past weekend, the 2nd weekend after the policy was announced, housing transactions dipped in spite of large-scale promotion campaigns ahead of the May Day holidays.

New way to treat kitchen waste
Guangzhou is to introduce new technologies to treat organic waste from the city's kitchens, and the factory which is to operate this will start operating in the middle of next month. This technology uses microorganisms and insects to decompose waste and turn it into organic fertilizers. Duan Delian, the head of the factory, said they will choose 30 households from Hailong Bay community in Panyu to test run this technology, paying them a symbolic 1 yuan per household per year:
" the one yuan is a symbolic gesture. We hope to encourage the whole society to take action. If the test run is not successful, then we won't promote it to other families. "

Many residents in the community are willing to give it a try:
" There is no plan for the treatment or recycling of low-quality waste. I advice to start the plan soon."

Guangdong wins sixth CBA title in seven seasons
Guangdong Hongyuan won  the sixth title in seven seasons after beating Xinjiang Guanghui 103-94 in the finals of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) yesterday (April 25) in Dongguan. Guangdong won the series 4-1.

Made-in-Taiwan products sells good on Mainland
A 4-day expo displaying made-in-Taiwan products concluded in Dongguan yesterday (April 25). The expo received over 6000 professional buyers and over 200,000 visitors. The trade volume reached 1.9 billion yuan.
