GD GDP up 12.5% in the First Quarter In the first quarter of this year, Guangdong's GDP increased by 12.5%, up 6.7% compared to the same period of 2009 and 0.6% higher than the national average. Experts believe this is a good sign the economy is recovering but note that the increase rate is still lower than before the crisis.
Electricity and Emergency Water Supplies Resume in Yushu From the headquarters of the quake-relief team in Yushu, Qinghai, as of 8 pm last night (19th), 2039 people were confirmed dead whilst over 12,000 others were injured. As for the basic infrastructure, electricity is working again and water is running in 3 of the 11 counties in Jiegu. Over 1,200 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquake struck last Wednesday.
GZ Metro Line 3 Starts Running with Compartments Starting today (20th), 2 trains running on the overcrowded line 3 are testing a new configuration, both with 3 new compartments. They will be running between the East Railway and Tiyuxilu at an interval of around 6 minutes. However, Guangzhou Metro Group have said that when all trains running on line 3 shall have the same extended configuration, that is scheduled for the end of this month, passengers shall wait no more than 3 minutes in between trains.
