Volcanic Ashes Affect Flights in GD Volcanic ash from Iceland, carried by winds, has spread across the skies of Europe in the past few days, forcing the grounding of most civil aviation flights and closing-down a lot of airspace. According to International meteorological predictions, the volcanic ash will continue to affect flights until next week. Much of Europe remained a virtual no-fly zone today though successful test flights have been conducted. It is estimated that the flight suspension across Europe has led to losses of 200 million US Dollars per day.
Back in Guangdong, the volcanic ash has prevented some buyers from visiting the first phase of the Canton Fair, which concluded today (April 19th).
Zhao Guoding, Manager from the International Trade Department of a Zhejiang Electronic Appliance Manufacturer.
"Because our clients are mainly doing the processing trade and they are from Europe, which is affected by the volcanic ash, some buyers can not make it to the Canton Fair. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has announced that flights departing from Guangzhou to European cities, such as Paris, have been canceled."
