Rescue and medical teams from GD arrive in quake-hit region The death toll of China 's Qinghai 7.1-magnitude earthquake rose to 589 as of 7 am this morning (April 15). According to the local quake-relief headquarters, over 8000 people were injured, and 80 per cent of houses in the quake-hit region have collapsed. The first group of 308 Special Forces from Guangdong has arrived in Qinghai to help with the rescue mission. Seventy per cent of these soldiers and officers participated in the operation following the Sichuan earthquake. An officer told us: "Our major mission is rescuing people. We have brought with us equipment including life detectors and lifesaving air beds." An aid team consisting of 26 doctors and medical workers has also been dispatched to participate in the rescue work. Guangdong government is donating 10 million yuan to the quake-hit region while Guangdong Redcross is calling for donations from the public.
 Canton Fair Opens today The 107th session of the China Import and Export Fair, known as the Canton Fair, opened in Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center today (April 15). Thanks to the recovery of the global economy, nearly 1000 booths have been added. The number of exhibitors will also increase by 1039, making it the largest fair in history. Chen Zhaoren, spokesman for the fair, told us:
"These figures show that the world economy is recovering and China 'export volume has also been growing. I believe Chinese export-oriented enterprises are looking good this year. "
China's March property prices jump a record 11.7 per cent China's property prices rose at a record pace in March, indicating more drastic measures may be needed amid concerns of a bubble in the nation's housing market. The National Bureau of Statistics said on its website that residential and commercial real-estate prices in 70 cities climbed 11.7 percent from a year earlier. Guangzhou 's house prices have soared by 20.3 per cent.
