GZ to Treat on 10 Livelihood Issues this Year
The 5th Session of the 13th Guangzhou National People's Congress opened this morning. Guangzhou's Mayor Zhang Guangning, the newly-appointed Secretary of GZ Municipal Committee of CPC, delivered a government report addressing many of the issues affecting the lives of people in the city. Mayor Zhang Guangning said this year the government will focus on treating ten major issues, including expanding social insurance coverage, upgrading the water-pipe system in the west and north of the city to guarantee better water quality, as well as creating another 200,000 jobs:

"The government will put in 540 million Yuan to help the unemployed find jobs, especially the university graduates. They shall receive more guidance. Also the favorable policies on tax will be realized and we will try to ensure that the employment rate reaches 70%. "

SH Expo: China Pavilion Costs 2 bn to Build
The China Pavilion for the Shanghai Expo has cost over 2 billion Yuan to build, architect in chief, He Jingtang, from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, revealed this morning. Occupying an area of over 160,000 square meters and reaching a height of 69.9 meters, the China Pavilion is the biggest and tallest at the Shanghai Expo. As for the Guangdong Pavilion, He said that it features the theme of the traditional Guangdong Qi-Lou, as well as a 5D cinema to showcase to the world Guangdong's "green urban life".

Polish Consulate in GZ Starts Series of Condolence Services
The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Guangzhou today started three days of mourning for the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski. The Polish President, his wife, and some of the country's top politicians and senior members of the Polish Armed Forces were all heading to Russia for a remembrance day event marking the Katyn massacre, when their plane crashed. From today until Wednesday, a series of condolence services will be held at the Polish Consulate here in Guangzhou.
