GD Puts Energy Conservation into Law
The 18th Session of Guangdong's 11th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee concluded yesterday (Mar 31st) with the approval of the Province's new energy conservation regulations. According to the regulations, county-level cities and above will need to incorporate energy cuts and key energy saving projects into their development blueprints. Governments at different levels shall establish a system to calculate, supervise and evaluate their energy conservation performances. The regulations are aimed at effectively capping energy consumption and pollution.
 

Unification of Annual Toll Pass in GZ, FS and ZQ Cuts Travel Costs and Promote Inter-city Integration
Starting this morning (April 1st), Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhaoqing unified their annual toll pass system. An annual toll pass bought in any of the 3 cities shall be valid across all 3 regions. This move is not only a step to promote the integration of cities in the PRD, but also benefits pass holders by saving drivers approximately 5 million yuan every year. People in these three cities have welcomed the move. The unification means toll fees at 54 toll satiations across the three regions have been cancelled. At Xijiang toll station in Zhaoqing, a car driver named Luo said, if he drives from Guangzhou to Deqing Dragon Mother Temple in Zhaoqing and back, he will now save 40 yuan. He considers the move adds convenience to people's lives.
"As a car owner, it is much more convenient as I don't have to make a stop-over at the toll stations and it costs much less than in the past."

 
Shantou's Traditional Art and Handicrafts on Display at SH World Expo
Today marks the one-month countdown to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Visitors to the expo will have the change to discover traditional arts and handicrafts from the city of Shantou in eastern Guangdong. Will be on display are Chao-dialect opera, the delicate vase paintings, miniature calligraphic works on potteries and ceramics, and Chaoyang paper-cutting.
