GD eyes on an environmentally-friendly society The Guangdong government and the Ministry of Environmental Protection will work together to promote environmental protection in the Pearl River Delta. The two sides signed a memorandum in Guangzhou yesterday (March 25), pledging to combine Guangdong's industrial transfer policies with environmental protection measures through strengthening the construction of environmental protection infrastructure, closing down polluting factories and accelerating the construction of greenways throughout the PRD.
High demand for Canton Fair Booths The 107th session of the Canton Fair will open in Guangzhou on April 15th. An improvement from the previous 2 sessions, demand for booths exceeds supply, a new sign of recovery and confidence. Our journalist Yang Zhen has talked to the secretary-general of the Fair, Wang Zhiping:
Wang said, with the economy on firm tracks to recovery, the demand for booths is returning to pre-crisis levels: " Costal and developed regions have a high demand for booths, such as Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces." The organizers have allocated 20 million yuan to change the layout of the booths in the exhibition hall. 1000 booths will be added bringing the total number of booths to 560,000.
GZ to build more affordable housing The Guangzhou government will set aside 4.5 billion yuan and provide 1.05 square kilometers of land to build affordable housing, a step to solve low-income families' housing difficulties amid skyrocketing real estate prices. These houses are expected to shelter about 25,000 families in need and the government has pledged to put 10,000 of them on the market within the year.
