National Reform and Development Commission: Southwest China's Drought Affects Little CPI Will the drought in Southwestern China push up prices? Zhou Wangjun, the deputy Minister from the National Reform and Development Commission responded to a recent media report by saying the drought would have only a minor impact on prices. He said China experiences droughts every year, and this year's drought- stricken farmlands will have little impact over the yield of food, including rice, tea and vegetables grown to produce edible oil.
Guangzhou International Travel Fair Commences The Guangzhou International Travel Fair opened in Guangzhou thins morning (Mar 25th) at the Jinhan exhibition center. With the economic recovery is now on firm tracks in Guangdong, this year's fair has attracted more domestic and overseas exhibitors more from our reporter Liang Chunmei: Several South African countries are attending the fair for the first time. According to a Tanzanian representative, Guangdong holidaymakers offer a great potential. They hope the fair will enable people to learn more about their country. The Shanghai World Expo, which will commence on May 1st, should lead to an influx of visitors. Gu Xuncai, the General Manager of CITS Guangdong, said they have set-up over 200 itineraries which include visiting the expo.
"We offered the Shanghai World Expo tour packages ranging from 180 Yuan to over 5000 Yuan; visitors can enjoy services from buying entrance tickets, the tour guide services and transport."

GZ to Build More Low-Rent Houses These Two Years Guangzhou authorities have announced they will build over 40,000 additional low-rent council houses within the next two years. This number is thought to be able to answer to the needs of all low-income families across the city by the end of 2011, one year ahead of schedule. As of 2009, over half of the 77,000 low-income households in Guangzhou moved into their new homes.
GZ's Schools Enhance Security after Fujian Massacre In response to the massacre in a primary school in Fujian province of 8 primary school pupils and which injured 5 others, primary and middle schools across Guangzhou are now tightening security. Police are educating students and their teachers on protective measures so as to avoid danger and more police patrols will stay nearby schools. But no such measure was taken in universities although on Monday in Jinan University, a man, presumed suicidal, pushed a woman off the 11th floor of a teaching building before jumping to his death. The woman miraculously survived the jump but is still in a critical condition.
