Construction workers have front row seats at Guangzhou Opera House

Guangzhou Opera House will open at the end of this month. It has cost 1.38 billion yuan to build and has taken 4 years to complete. 3 shows will be staged in April to test-out the facilities before the first official opening in May. Our journalist Luosu has the details:

Guangzhou Opera House was designed by British architect, Zaha Hadid, famous for her bold and complicated structures and the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize in global architecture. Guangzhou Opera House is located in Zhujiang New Town and the foot of West Tower and looking over at the Haixin Tower. Its appearance is unique, like two stones on a gentle slope. Migrant workers involved in the construction of the Opera House will be invited to listen to the first concert held to test out the facilities. Liang Lizhen from the Opera House's management told us:
" for the opening of this opera house, construction workers have given us so much. This is a way to show our appreciation."

Ms Liang added that each year they shall guarantee that at least 30 shows shall offer low-price tickets to enable the general public to discover opera in this unique venue.
" we will introduce more international shows in the future because Guangzhou doesn't have many of those today."

Package Tours to Thailand Resumes
Package Tours to Thailand resumed today (March 24) after a two-week suspension due to the anti-government "red shirt" protests. Preferred destinations by Guangdong holidaymakers are Bangkok and Pattaya.

Temperatures to drop 7 to 10 degrees
Beginning today (March 24), a cold front is entering Guangdong from the north bringing an end to the hot weather we're been experiencing for the past week. The mercury is expected to drop about 7 to 10 degrees today and rain is expected across the province.
