GD's Electricity Supply On the Rise and Stable With a rebound in production and the economic recovery on firm tracks, Guangdong's electricity consumption has jumped considerably. Over the past two months, the overall consumption across the Province hit over 50 billion kilowatt-hours, up 20% over the same period last year. According to the Guangdong Power Grid Cooperation, the electricity supply will remain stable and has not been affected by the drought in southwest China. However, caps on electricity supplies will be imposed on high energy consuming industries.
No Articles for Everyday Use to be Available in Star-rated Hotel Rooms Next Month The Guangdong Tourism Bureau has announced that starting next month; star-rated hotels shall no longer offer complimentary products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, or soap. This surprising measure is supposedly out of environmental concern however the bureau didn't give details of the improvements it shall bring. At first, customers shall have to ask the reception for these items, but on October 1st they will no longer be able at all.
Foreign Students in China Sets a Record High in 2009 The latest statistics released by the Ministry of Education show that last year the number of foreign students in China hit a new record at over 230,000 a rise of nearly 7% compared from 2008.
