China advisory body calls for more cooperation, less "containment" in Sino-U.S. relations The spokesman for the third session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Zhao Qizheng said in Beijing today (March 2) that there should be more cooperation, and less "containment" in the Sino-U.S. relations. Zhao said "The Americans need to understand that the China-U.S. relation is like a car that has two drivers instead of one. The Chinese and Americans both have wheels and brakes, so they have to discuss with each other to drive the car forward on the right track". "Otherwise, the car will only spin around and stay where it is," he said. Zhao said the United States are responsible for the current stagnation in the bilateral relationship with China. The annual session of CPPCC, China's top political advisory body, will open Wednesday afternoon.
Overseas Chinese in Chile safe The Chairman of the Chinese Association in Chile, Mr. Hu Jinwei, sent an e-mail to the Jiangmen Overseas Chinese Association today (March 2), informing them of the situation in the quake-hit country. Hu said some overseas Chinese lost their properties but luckily no one was injured. There are currently over 10,000 overseas Chinese residing in Chile, half of them are originally from Heshan city in Jiangmen, a region know as the hometown of overseas Chinese.
Foot-and-mouth Disease amongst pigs reported in Guangzhou Foot-and-mouth Disease has been reported found amongst pigs in Guangzhou¡¯s baiyun district, with nearly 1500 pigs infected. The National Foot-and-Mouth Disease Reference Laboratory confirmed the outbreak Monday and over 8,000 sick pigs and those raised in the same farms were slaughter. The province has reported no infected pork being sold on the market and no new cases.
