68 kilometers of rail line to open before Asian Games
The Guangzhou government yesterday (March 2) announced the details of the 2011-2015 metro network proposal and the layout plan for 2020. Concerning prices, officials said ticket fees shall not rise significantly. According to the plan, before the opening of the Guangzhou Asian Games, 68 new kilometers of metro lines will be put into use including the Guangzhou-Foshan inter-city metro. As of the end of this year, Guangzhou shall have a total metro network of 218 kilometers.

CPPCC Deputy Focuses on Food Safety
The case of the Hainan cowpeas found to be containing toxic pesticides has aroused great concern amongst the deputies of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which will open this afternoon (March 3). Liu Xin, a deputy to CPPCC and dean of the food and health engineering Institute at Sun Yatsen University said he plans to put forward a proposal concerning this issue at the conference. Liu said he hopes the country can set up a proper supervision system to avoid similar cases happening again:
" this time at the conference we will call for the establishment of a food safety supervision system which focuses on "prevention".

Liu pointed out the key to guarantee food safety:
" first, technology should be developed for prevention, and we should raise green and organic food. Second, supervision should be strengthened to monitor the whole food production process. "

Temperature to drop below 10 degrees
Temperatures in Guangdong are now as high as in summer, but the mercury is likely to drop dramatically to below 10 degrees over the weekend. A strong cold front from the north is entering Guangdong and some areas in the province are likely to some rain and thunderstorms.
