BRT Opens for Free Ride Beginning today (February 10), passengers can ride Guangzhou's new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes and free-of-charge for the next 10 days. More details from our two reporters Zhangbin and Fangyan:
Zhangbin rode the bus in the downtown areas of Guangzhou, on Tianhe lu where there's lots of traffic and many junctions. He told us about his experience: "I think the speed along the BRT route is a little faster than normal buses. But because the route is not completely exclusive, when passing a junction or traffic lights the bus still needs to stop and wait, so there is not an obvious improvement here. The driver told me he drives at about 40 Kilometers per hour.
So downtown areas seems to still be quite congested whilst the situation is probably better on main section of the BRT in eastern Guangzhou, with fewer intersections. As for Fangyan, she was observing the situation on the platforms."

Cold Front to Sweep Guangdong The current warm weather will come to an end as a strong cold front will begin to affect Guangdong tomorrow (February 11) night. The mercury in northern Guangdong is expected to drop 8 to 10 degrees, whilst in the central and southern regions, it will drop by about 6 to 8 degrees. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds are also forecast in province in the coming days.
Guangzhou Metro Extend Service time The metro in Guangzhou will extend its opening hours during the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday. On Thursday and Friday, as well as on Sunday and next Monday, the trains will run for an extra 1 hour. On Saturday, on Chinese New Years' Eve, this will be pushed even further with train running for an extra 90 minutes.
