GD to boost Tourism Industry

A work conference on provincial tourism revealed today (February 3) that Guangdong will enhance 4 tourism concepts to attract more visitors: Lingnan culture, dynamic business, golden coastline and food paradise. According to this first document of this year, Guangdong aims to boost the tourism industry through this strategy. Last year, Guangdong's tourism industry generated over 306.8 billion yuan in income, up 15% compared with that in 2008.

900,000 phones suspended for illicit texting

About 900,000 cell phone numbers were suspended in 2009 for sending mass SPAM by text message. According to Yang Yuncai, head of the Guangdong communication agency, since Nov. 2005, the provincial watchdog agency has been working with the police to provide a database of keywords to screen for and cut off service to those operating these numbers. The amount of numbers closed this year increased nine times compared to 2006 and none of those who had their numbers cut-off ever filed a complaint. The authorities stressed that the screening system is based on a keyword filtration and not all text messages are actually checked.

Guangzhou Makes More Efforts to recyle waste
