GD crack downs on new cases of melamine contaminated milk Guangdong yesterday (1st) started a 10-day campaign to crack down on tainted milk powder, which contains inappropriately high levels of melamine. The National Health Ministry reported 7 brands of toxic milk powder from 2 dairy product manufacturers. However, it seems that Guangzhou has so far been spared from the scandal as the city hasn't found any tainted milk powder currently on sale. Local authorities have once again assured the public that all the tainted milk powder found back in 2008 was destroyed at that time, a statement which obviously allows people to question where the current tainted milk is coming from.

US team to play against Lang's squad The United States women's volleyball team is in Guangzhou for a challenge match with Evergrande Guangdong at 7:30 tonight (February 2) at the Guangzhou Gymnasium. The American team will exchange cross-net fire with Evergrande, led by the Chinese volleyball legend Lang Ping who coached the US team from 2005-2008, helping it win silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Baidu builds headquarters in Shenzhen Baidu.com, China's largest search engine, signed Monday (January 1) an agreement with Shenzhen to build its headquarters in the city. Wang Rong, Shenzhen's acting mayor, said at the signing ceremony that the arrival of Baidu.com will boost Shenzhen's development and enhance Baidu's influence in southern China and even in South East Asia. Baidu's president, Li Yanhong, said Baidu.com will also base its R&D center in Shenzhen.
NFL set to touch down in China The NFL, the organization running the professional American football league, plans to stage games in China in the coming years. Michael Stokes, the managing director of NFL China, said in Guangzhou yesterday (February 1) that the development of high-class stadiums in big Chinese cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai has laid solid foundations for the league to bring games to China.
