The Guangdong Financial Department delivered a report yesterday (10th) presenting the work they have done so far this year. Although hit hard by the global financial crisis, Guangdong's financial revenue nevertheless managed to grow by a small 0.58% year-on-year. Our journalist Xie Xin has the details:
So far this year, 75% of Guangdong's financial expenditures were allocated to improve the livelihood of inhabitants and to balance out the expenditures in the public service sector. The director of the province's financial department, Liu Kun, took education as an example to emphasize on the need to develop public causes no matter how dire the economic situation may get:
"As for rural mandatory education, living subsidies have gone up to 200 Yuan per student this year from the original 100 Yuan. A total of 198 million Yuan has been allocated to build and renovate schools and this should be an on-going task. However hard the economic situation may get, we cannot forfeit the essentials. "

Prices of new homes rose 6.2 percent in November from the same month last year whilst second-hand property prices rose 5.5 percent. The total investment into real estate projects nationwide in the first 11 months was 3.13 trillion yuan ($458.27 billion), up 17.8 percent year-on-year. Although strong, that is still 4.9 percent lower than at the same period last year.

Guangzhou-Wuhan high speed train launch 26th of Dec
The Wuhan-Guangzhou Railway Line will start operating on the 26th this month with 40 trains per day running between the two cities, transporting an estimated 400,000 people on a daily basis. Our journalist Liu Chenshao, has the details:

The Wuhan-Guangzhou Railway Line will stop at 15 stations along the way, passing Changsha, Zhuzhou, Shaoguan, Qingyuan and so on. The train is one of the most advanced in the world and can run at top speeds of 350 km/hr. One of the chief engineers working on the project, Li Zhifeng said that although trains will run at a high speed, passengers need not worry about its safety:

All trains will have their own inspection logs and will be equipped with an ATP safety monitoring system. They will run at speeds designated by the commander center.

5 new land auctioned-off
Yesterday afternoon (10th), 5 new lots of land on the university island in Guangzhou were auctioned-off and sold within only 43 minutes! The Guangzhou City Construction Corporation beat another 11 bidders and ended up buying all 5 lots, with the price per square meter for one of them reaching as high as 9503 Yuan! Now it is of course good news for the GZ City Construction Corporation, but experts have expressed concern that this sort of monopoly could be unhealthy for the housing market.
