World Badminton Champion Xie Xingfang Retires Yesterday (Nov 23rd) was the last day of the China Badminton Open and for the world champion, Xie Xingfang, it was also the last day of her professional career. The Guangzhou native announced her decision to retire. Talking about her future plans, Xie Xingfang said she will return to Guangzhou and get involved in preparing the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Chinese shares close higher Monday Chinese equities closed higher on the first trading day of the week, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up nearly 1%, to close at 3,338. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 1.16 percent, or 159.52 points, to close at 13,854.
GZ's Bottled Gas Price Increases to above 100 Yuan Consecutive days of cold weather have lead to a sharp increase in the price of bottled gas. Gas prices from Guangzhou's four major gas suppliers are now at an average of over 100 yuan. Many citizens we spoke to said the price rise came earlier this winter. According to the Guangdong price supervision center the average price of bottled gas for the whole province hit 92 yuan.
