China Continues Policies to Stabilize Exports Accompanied by Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua, the Minister of Commerce Mr. Chen Deming yesterday (Nov 2nd) paid a visit to the ongoing third phase of the Canton Fair. During his tour, the minister stated China will continue its policies aimed at stabilizing exports thanks to the current tax rebate and maintaining the RMB exchange rates. These are the measures which he believes will create a favorable environment for export-orientated enterprises.
Cold Front Hits GD Guangdong is currently facing the strongest cold front so far this autumn. Temperatures have dropped considerably and this will continue until Wednesday when the mercury will drop to as low as 3 degrees in northern Guangdong. Strong northern winds will pervade but no rain is due. Guangzhou for the next two days will see its lowest temperatures ranging between 12 and 15 degrees.
China's New Nasdaq-style Market Tumbles but Main Board Not Affected Today (Nov 2nd) was the first trading day of November. China's new Nasdaq-style market for small and medium-sized companies remains under the spotlight since the first batch of 28 companies were listed last Friday. Prices continued to drop after soaring in the first hours of trading. 20 stocks clasped to the maximum daily decline limit. However, concerns that the drops might affect the main board were proven unfounded with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rising by 2.7% to end the day at nearly 3100 points. The Shenzhen Component Index went up by 3.4% to close at 12,715.
Villagers in Shaoguan Lead Better Life with Better Roads The city of Shaoguan has finished the construction of 5,550 kilometers of new roads leading to nearly 1300 villages. This operation completed at the end of last year and end one year ahead of schedule. Better transportation leads to improvement in people's living standards. More from our reporter Li Hui: Jiaokeng village was once only accessible by a small mud track which meant that agricultural products could not be transported in a fast and effective way. Now the new road facilitates transport which has led to an increase in revenue for villagers. The vice-director of the village committee Mr. Yang Qiming: "Before 2004, the village' annual revenue was about one or two thousand yuan, but last year it doubled to 4000 yuan. The new road not only facilitates transportation, it also brings in more money."
