Basic Medication Becomes More Affordable
The nation's latest guide on the retail prices for basic medical drugs will be effective tomorrow, a much anticipated move by citizens. Insiders believe that compared with current prices, nearly half of the 296 drugs that appear in the guide will see they price drop by an average of 12%. 

Construction of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong railway begins
Construction on the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high speed railway is scheduled to start by the end of this year. The new line is expected to be open to traffic after 2015. With the Guangzhou terminal located in Xinshi, the travel time between Guangzhou and Hong Kong will be cut down to 48 minutes from the current two hours whilst the ticket fare will remain approximately the same at 180 Hong Kong Dollars. The project is estimated to cost 53.7 billion yuan. According to Hong Kong authorities, the high speed railway project hopes to encourage more people to visit the city. 

The World's First Stone-Made Newspaper Being Displayed in Yunfu
The 6th China (Yunfu) international stone material science and technology fair opened today (Oct 21st). The fair features an exhibit of a granite newspaper, the world's first, and probably last, stone-made newspaper, which is only 3 millimetres thin. The fair will last for three days and is expected to attract nearly 5000 domestic and overseas buyers. 

Track and Field Competitions of the 11th National Games Under the Spotlight with Liu Xiang
The track and field competitions for the ongoing 11th National Games started today (Oct 21st), with 963 athletes competing for the 44 gold medals. Internationally renowned Chinese 110-meter hurdler Liu Xiang will take part in the preliminary contest tomorrow (Oct 22nd), which has boosted the sales of tickets for the competition, however, the Athens gold medalist Xing Huina will not attend any competition due to injury.
