Canton Fair: Both Attendants and Exports Rebound Statistics released by the Canton Fair organizers show that both the number of attendants and the sales volume for the first phase of the 106th session have seen growth compared to the same period last session. Over 92,000 overseas buyers came to visit the fair, that's an 11.4% increase over the spring session. With 38.3%, the number of European attendants has seen the highest growth rate, whilst the number of African buyers has dropped by 4.7%. As for trade revenue, 15.58 billion USD' worth of deals were inked, up 19.6%. Guangdong was by far the leading delegations in terms revenue, at 6.18 billion USD.
A/H1N1 vaccine Innoculation Starts in PRD The Vice director-general of Guangdong Health Department, Huang Xiaoling, revealed yesterday (October 20) that the first batch of 210,000 doses of A/H1N1vaccines has arrived in Guangdong and inoculation is likely to start in November. She added that these actions will start in the PRD, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Foshan, and mostly target migrant populations. She stressed that detailed records will be kept to ensure the safety of the vaccine receivers.
Spokesman: China to rescue hijacked crew, bulk carrier Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ma Zhaoxu, said Tuesday that China will make every effort to rescue the crew of the hijacked bulk carrier, now in the hands of somalian pirates. During a press conference, Ma said the Chinese government was closely monitoring the situation. The Chinese vessel was hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean early Monday morning with 25 Chinese crewmen aboard. Ma said the Chinese Foreign Ministry and other government departments immediately started an emergency response procedure.
