First Ship of Qatar LNG Arrives in Shenzhen This morning (Oct 19th), Secretary of Guangdong CPC Committee Wang Yang and general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Fu Chengyu, were present at the ceremony to welcome the first ship of LNG (liquefied natural gas) from Qatar in Shenzhen. This is the first time in Chinese history for China to receive a 210,000 cubic meter LNG ship. Last year, CNOOC signed a contract with Qatar Gas in which the company agrees to supply CNOOC with a yearly toll of 2 million tons of LNG for a 25-year term.

GD Continues to be Hit by Droughts In Guangdong, the accumulated rainfall since the beginning of the year is down by 14% compared with previous years. The northern and eastern parts of Guangdong have suffered severe droughts and the water supply to over 50,000 people has been affected. Experts estimated that this drought could be as serious as the 2004 droughts. So far, Guangdong has allocated nearly 70 million Yuan and almost 700,000 people to fight the droughts.
Experts: 2nd Wave of A/H1N1 has Begun in China Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention expert Zeng Guang recently said that the second wave of A/H1N1 has started in China. He also revealed that according to a newly conducted research by Chinese researchers, spatters are the main means of the spread of the virus and that no evidence had been found of airborne transmission. Therefore people need not wear masks or disinfect the air to protect themselves from contracting the virus.
GZ's BRT Main Construction Project to Complete by Late November The main construction project of Guangzhou's BRT is expected to complete by the end of November and be put into operation before the lunar new year. Before that, test runs shall be carried out on three major BRT systems. By the time it's put into use, buses that run on exclusive bus lanes will run at a speed of 20 km/hr on average, from the current 11 km/hr.
