6 People Sentenced to Death in Urumqi Yesterday (Oct 12th), six men were sentenced to death after being found guilty of taken part in killings during the July riots in Urumqi, that claimed the lives of 197 people. Amongst the convicted is Abdukerim Abduwayit whom the Chinese government believes to have orchestrated the riots. All 6 men learned they face execution at the Intermediate People's Court of Urumqi but do have the opportunity to appeal the sentences. A seventh person was also on trial, but the court gave Tayirejan Abulimit life imprisonment after he admitted murder and robbery but later helped the police capture other suspects.
GZ's CPI on the Low Run for First 3 Quarters Data published by the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in the first three quarters of this year, Guangzhou's CPI has dropped by 3 % compared to the same period in 2008. Amongst the 8 categories of items listed in the calculation, the only category that has seen a rise in CPI was cigarettes and wines, up by 2.8%. Other categories including clothes, telecommunications, and entertainment have seen drops of up to 6 %.
First Hakka Business Conference Held Today in Meizhou The first Hakka business conference started today (Oct 13th) in Meizhou. It has attracted over 1200 business representatives from 21 countries and regions including the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and France, as well as people from Beijing, Shanghai and other cities across the country. From now on, the Hakka business conference will be held twice a year in Meizhou.
