CASS Forecasts China will Meet its 8% Growth in GDP The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) has recently issued a report regarding China's current economy and has forecast the performance level for autumn. According to the forecast, China's GDP growth should reach its goal of 8% and stand at around 8.3%. Furthermore, the optimistic report suggests that no significant inflation is expected this year or next year.
China's First Next Generation LCD Panel Manufacturing base settles in GZ After signing a memorandum in august with local authorities, LG---a Korean based LCD panel manufacturer---has recently announced it would set-up its new manufacturing base in Guangzhou's development zone. This base is to become China's first "next generation" LCD panel production plant and it will fill in a gap in the development of TFT-LCD technology in Guangdong. The project is jointly-developed by LG Display, the world's leading LCD panel manufacturer and the Guangzhou development zone. Both sides are now holding discussions concerning the details of the cooperation. Construction of the production facilities will begin in 2010, and the first panels should roll out by 2012. With an investment totaling 4 billion US Dollars, the plant will focus on producing what is called the "8.5th generation", which are 2.2 to 2.5 meter-wide LCD panels.
