Chinese shares gain 4.76% after week-long National Day holidays On the first day of trading after the week-long National Day holidays, Chinese equities rose 4.76 percent today (October 9), driven by gains on overseas markets. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index grew 132.29 points, or 4.76 percent, to end the today at 2,911.72 points. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 594.39 points, or 5.30 percent to close at 11,801.23.
Guangdong sees increase in Christmas goods exports to ASEAN The export of Christmas products towards the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) increased considerably in the first eight months, doubling in volume amidst a general decline in other regions. Figures released by Guangzhou Customs on Thursday show the volume Christmas products made in Guangdong and then exported to the ASEAN countries soared 250 percent from a year earlier. In comparison, exports to the United States and to the European Union have dropped about 25 percent and 14 percent respectively. The total volumes of Christmas products exported from Guangdong in the first eight months slid 16.3 percent year-on-year to 197,000 tons.
High-speed railway to Run between GZ and Wuhan A new Wuhan-Guangzhou Special Train will be put into operation by the end of this year, making it one of the world's fastest trains. After successful trial operations during the Chinese National Day golden week, railway authorities have revealed that thanks to the high-speed line, the trains can reach up to 350 kilometers per hour, therefore shortening the journey from the current ten and a half hours to only 3 hours.
