Good Business Over Golden Week This year's National Day Golden Week brought great business opportunities for Guangzhou tourism industry and retail shops. However, unlike last year, the purchase of new property was not on most people's agendas. More from our reporter Xie Xin: This golden week many travel agencies saw record high numbers in terms of travelers and revenues. The Guangzhou Tourism Office estimated an average of nearly 580,000 travelers departing the city everyday, that's a dramatic increase of 50% compared to last year. In addition, consumption was heavily on the rise. In just the first 4 days of the holidays, the 12 largest retailers in Guangzhou had already generated over 500 million yuan in sales. Chen Jianhong, deputy director of Mopark department store in Guangzhou, "We have generated 52 million yuan in sales over the past 8 days, that's a 30% rise over the same period last year, and the sales of leisure clothes has even doubled." However, real estate transactions suffered a serious drop in the number of deals signed after house prices skyrocketed earlier this year.
