Chinese president calls for int'l efforts to address climate change
President Hu Jintao said on Tuesday (September 22) the international community should tackle global climate change through common development, calling for international commitment and pledging China's continued efforts on this issue. Hu made these remarks whilst addressing the United Nations Climate Change Summit at the UN headquarters in New York. Hu outlined four principles needed to successfully deal with climate change. Hu said that fulfilling respective responsibilities, achieving mutual benefits and a win-win outcome, promoting common development, and ensuring financing and technology were of the utmost importance in making these efforts work.

China: New policy to shore up SMEs
The State Council issued a document yesterday (September 22) to strengthen support for the development of the country's small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs). The government will deepen reforms in the country's monopoly industries, lower the market access threshold for SMEs and create a more open, fair and competitive environment. The government will optimize procurement mechanisms, raising the volume of purchases from SMEs of commodities, engineering and services. The government will grant SMEs a one-year reprieve on the social security fund to cope with the global financial crisis. It will also expand channels for SMEs to raise capital by encouraging banks to lend them more money.

Liuxiang to Run in Guangzhou in November
Sport fans will be able to admire Liu Xiang, the Chinese hurdle champion, whilst he competes in Guangzhou this November during the 18th Asian Athletics Championship. An organizing committee was founded in Guangzhou yesterday (September 22) to prepare for the competition, scheduled between the 10th and 14th of November, which coincides with the one-year countdown to the Guangzhou Asian Games. Liuxiang, a superstar for many mainland people, made his comeback at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Sunday, after a 13-month absence due to a foot injury that occurred during the first round of the Beijing Olympic Games.
