6 measures to help SMEs

The China International Small and Medium size Enterprises Fair opened in Guangzhou today (September 22), with more than 170,000 domestic and overseas business and government representatives expected to attend. Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Yizhong, said it is clear that China's economy is showing signs of recovering, but it still isn't solid, stable or balanced. The State Council has put forward 6 measures to help domestic SMEs enter onto the global market. These measures are: ensuring a fair market, solving financing difficulties, giving financial support, accelerating technological innovation, exploiting overseas market and improving services for SMEs.

Spain sets up economic and business office in GZ
Again, the SME trade fair. This year, Spain is the co-host country of the fair, and on the eve of the opening, the country opened yesterday (September 21) an economic and business office in Guangzhou. Silvia Iranzo Gutierrez, the Spanish vice-minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade, said his country is very interested in the Chinese market, especially in the south. Spain is currently planning to set up a consulate, as well as trade, tourism and visa offices in Guangzhou. These measures aim at facilitating social and economic ties between Spain and Guangdong.

Reduce  congestion - Guangzhou go 'Car Free'
Today (September 22) was a Car-Free Day in Guangzhou, a move organized by the municipality to advocate the use of public transport instead of private cars. 90% of cars belonging to government organizations and public institutions were not allowed to run today, whilst the other 10% were only supposed to be used in case of emergency. Vice-mayor of Guangzhou, Su Zequn, walked this morning to the construction site of the Bus Rapid Transit project on Zhongshandadao to inspect the traffic. With many areas blocked for the construction of the BRT, serious traffic jams are part of daily life in this neighborhood so it was a particularly fitting place to incite people to leave their cars at home and use the city's transportation network.

Law protect college interns' rights and interests
Today (September 22), a draft law to guarantee college students' rights and interests during internships was submitted to the Standing Committee of the 11th Provincial People's Congress. If approved, this regulation will be the first of its kind in the country. According to the draft, schools and companies must not use the interns as low-cost labor.
