President Hu Embarks Visit to the U.N. President Hu Jintao is making an unprecedented string of visits to United Nations summits as he leads a high-ranking Chinese delegation to the UN this week. The president will be in New York for the UN Summit on Climate Change, the 64th annual UN General Assembly debate and a nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament summit of the UN Security Council lasting from today through till Thursday. He'll then head to the G20 summit in Pittsburgh on Thursday night and will attend the G20 summit through till Friday. Hu is also expected to hold talks with his US counterpart Barack Obama and a separate discussion with Japan's new Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.
China considers to raise wholesale hydropower electricity prices According to Zhang Guobao, the vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, China will soon raise hydropower electricity prices in a bid to subsidize residents relocated due to the construction of power plants. He also said the commission is about to raise hydropower electricity prices to the same level as coal power plants.

China's major SOEs report 30% fall in profit last year China's major state-owned enterprises (SOEs) under the supervision of the central government reported a 30-percent fall in net profits last year, according to the country's state assets supervisor. A total of 141 SOEs are under the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and have reported net profits of 696.18 billion yuan (101.96 billion U.S. dollars) last year, down 30.8 percent from a year ago.
Airbus SAS, the world's largest commercial aircraft manufacturer said in a report that China's aviation market will see an annual increase of 7.9 percent in the next 20 years, following India to become the world's second fastest growing market.
