President Hu Embarks Visit to the U.N. President Hu Jintao is making an unprecedented string of visits to United Nations summits as he leads a high-ranking Chinese delegation to the UN this week. The president will be in New York for the UN Summit on Climate Change, the 64th annual UN General Assembly debate and a nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament summit of the UN Security Council lasting from today through till Thursday. According to Liu Zhenmin, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, Hu is the first Chinese head of state in over 30 years to attend the UN general debate. Hu is also expected to hold talks with his US counterpart Barack Obama. He will also attend the Group of 20 (G20) financial summit in Pittsburgh, the United States.

4000 Economical Houses to be Available in GZ Next Year As houses prices keep rising, citizens voiced the need for more government funded houses. Huang Wenbo, the Deputy Director General of Guangzhou Land Resources and Housing Management Bureau yesterday (Sept 20th) said at the 2009 Guangzhou Real Estate Trade Expo that the bureau will conduct a survey regarding government funded houses to better understand the market demand. 4000 government funded houses are expected to be put on the market next year.
GZ to Embrace Car-Free Day Tomorrow Tomorrow (Sept 22nd) will be Guangzhou's Car Free Day. From 7a.m. to 7 p.m., parts of the city will be closed to traffic to encourage pedestrians and cyclists as well as push people to use public transport. Guangzhou's Car-Free Day was initiated last year in an effort to raise environmental awareness.
