China wants WTO talks on US tariffs The Chinese government on Monday (September 14) filed a formal request for consultations with the United States under the World Trade Organization dispute settlement mechanism over steep US tariffs imposed on Chinese tires. According to the WTO's dispute settlement system, the two countries will have 60 days to try to resolve the dispute through consultations. If consultations fail, China can request a WTO panel to investigate and rule on the case.
Aviation industry growth rate "surprisingly good" China's top civil aviation official said domestic passenger air traffic soared by 43% in August year-on-year, despite the slump faced by the global air transport industry. According to Li Jiaxiang, director of the CAAC, the growth rate is "surprisingly good", even compared to fast-growing periods in China's civil aviation history. Domestic passenger traffic grew by 20% in the first six months of the year, and the entire aviation industry earned 8 billion yuan compared to a huge loss of 28.2 billion yuan last year.
7 GD Cities Compete for Funding for Industrial Transfer An assessment meeting was held today (Sep 15th) in Guangzhou to select the last batch of cities which shall get funding from the provincial government to carry out their industrial-transfer. The seven cities competing for the 1.5 billion Yuan fund are Heyuan, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, Huizhou, Shanwei, Zhanjiang and Maoming.
World's First Pulp and Paper Exchange to Settle in Guangzhou Development District Kingsany Paper Corp. is to establish the world's first pulp and paper exchange in Guangzhou's Development District. With 1 billion yuan of total investment and 200 million yuan for the first phase alone, the China Pulp and Paper Exchange will have six platforms for information releases, online trading, futures trading, spot transactions, capital accounting, and storage and logistics.
