Shaoguan Makes Progress in Rural Labor Transfer Yesterday, (Sept 14th) the Consular delegation touring Northern Guangdong paid a visit to some enterprises and a vocational school in Shaoguan, in hope to better understand the implementation of the province's "dual transfer" policy. The transfer of rural labor forces to larger cities is one of the focuses of the plan. In Shaoguan Senior Technical School, President Liu Xuegeng briefed the delegation on the school's rural labor transfer training. He said that since that program was launched last year, over 1,000 people from rural areas have been trained, amongst which 789 have found jobs. This year 2,478 rural laborers are receiving vocational education; the number nearly meets the target of 2,500 set by Shaoguan authorities. Tuition fees for each laborer are 1,400 yuan, covered entirely by the Guangdong government. Many consulate officers see this as a positive move and Brian Davidson, the British Consul General said the schools are training the right sort of labor force to meet companies' demand.
