Foreign Consul Delegation Inspect Northern Guangdong
A 49-member foreign consul delegation set off today (September 14) to inspect northern Guangdong, focusing on the implementation of the province's "dual transfer" policy--in other words, the transfer of labor and industries from developed to less developed regions. The delegation will tour the cities of Shaoguan and Qingyuan. They will visit private and foreign-funded companies to see how they are operating since they were asked to leave the Pearl River Delta. The delegation will also visit vocational schools, an important part for the transfer of labor forces to larger cities.
Guangdong's Foreign Trade Pick up The decline rate in Guangdong's foreign trade is getting smaller and smaller. Statistics from Guangdong Customs showed that in the first 8 months of the year, Guangdong's imports and exports dropped 19% compared to the same period last year. However, the decrease rate is 0.7% less than that in the first 7 months and lower than the national decrease rate of 22.4%. Compared to other provinces, Guangdong remains in first place terms of foreign trade volume.
NBA Washington Wizards Visits Guangzhou Thirty years after the "Washington Wizards" became the first NBA team to visit China, veterans of the team arrived in Guangzhou yesterday (Sept 13th), the fourth stop of their China tour. This tour is part of activities held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of China-U.S. diplomatic relations. It will return to U.S. on September 15.
