GD's Export Volume on the Rise The Head of the Guangdong Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation bureau, Liang Yaowen, revealed today (Aug 20th) that Guangdong's export volume is seeing smaller decrease rates every month and might even see an increase in the 4th quarter of this year. Statistics show that since May, the decrease rate is getting smaller and that July even saw an 11% increase from that of June. However, Liang also commented, that Guangdong's goal to achieve a yearly increase in the volume of exports may still be difficult.
GD Information Office Platform Opens The Guangdong Government's Information Office officially launched a network platform today (Aug 20th) which should allow domestic and foreign journalists to contact officials and improve the transparency of work achieved by the government. On the platform, the contact information of the 100 official government news spokesmen and 147 news assistants is made available.
Fewer DUI Cases Recorded due to Campaign Last night (Aug 19th), the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau was back on the streets again, on a campaign to come down hard on drunk-drivers. As of 11 pm last night, a total of 66 cases of alcohol abuse were recorded, 40 cases fewer than on the first day of the campaign. A spokesman for the bureau said that ever since the campaign started last Saturday (Aug 15th), fewer cases have been recorded.
Book Coupons Given to Students at GZ Book Exhibition The Guangzhou Book Exhibition opened at the Jinhan Exhibition Center this morning and has attracted a great number of book lovers. At the opening ceremony, China Mobel Guangzhou, the Guangdong Provincial Publishing Group and the Guangzhou Charity Federation joined hands to give out coupons to students facing financial difficulties. Around 100 students were given coupons to purchase books at the exhibition.
