Typhoon GONI Lands at Taishan The meteorological station in Guangdong reports that GONI, the 7th typhoon this year, reached Taishan at 6.20 this morning (August 5). Another tropical storm, named Morakot, formed over the West Pacific Ocean yesterday morning, but should miss Guangdong, directly hitting Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. Strong winds, dangerous waves and heavy rainstorms are expected in western Guangdong and the PRD today and tomorrow. The civil affairs ministry has asked local departments to stay on high alert for possible floods and other disasters caused by rainstorms.


Guangzhou IFC Attracts Big Companies The Guangzhou International Financial Center (IFC), more commonly known as West Tower, has attracted it¡¯s first clients including the world famous real estate management company CB Richard Ellis and luxury hotel group Guangzhou Four Seasons Hotel. The new skyscraper towers above Zhujiang New City with its 103 floors and its 432 meters in height. It will become Guangzhou's tallest building upon completion this October. Complying with government policies aimed at transforming Guangzhou into a financial hub for China and even Asia, globally renowned companies and large domestic enterprises have been invited to set up their headquarters in the building, as well as fast growing companies in sectors related to finance, insurance, consultancy, information and modern services.

China Unicom to Inject 7 Billion in Guangzhou's Information Projects Guangzhou and China Unicom have signed an agreement yesterday (August 4) which states that the operator, one of China's top telecommunication companies, will invest 7 billion yuan over the next 5 years to accelerate the development of Guangzhou¡¯s information technologies. Guangzhou aims to reach the level of medium developed countries in terms of e-governance, information economy, Internet and digital networks.
