Guangzhou: No Plan for Imposing "Traffic Jam Fee" The Guangzhou Urban Utilities and Landscaping Bureau announced yesterday (Aug 2nd) that Guangzhou has no plans to impose in the near future what has been named a "traffic jam fee". Recently several media reports mentioning such a plan worried many people but the bureau has refuted them by saying that the plan is "still under assessment".

Urumqi Police Detain Another 319 After 7.5 Riots Police in Urumqi said yesterday (Aug 2nd) that in addition to the 253 detentions the police announced on July 29th, they have arrested another 319 people in connection with the deadly riots of July 5 in the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. A statement issued by the Urumqi Public Security Bureau said the 319 people had been detained after new information was received from the public or obtained through the on-going investigation. The suspects face charges in connection with the riots that left 197 people dead. Days after the violence, the public security departments in Urumqi issued a notice urging locals to turn in suspects who were still at large.
GD to Expect Tropical Storm Yesterday morning (Aug 2nd) a tropical depression formed over the East Nanhai Sea and it's slowly approaching Guangdong with an increasing momentum. Last night, the depression started to affect coastal areas in the province, causing 2.5-meter waves. The tropical depression is expected to soon turn into a tropical storm.
